TWI has developed an eLearning option for the CSWIP Plant Inspector training course.

Designed for engineering, technical, operations, maintenance or inspection operatives working in the fields of oil and gas production, chemical processing, power generation, utilities, commercial works (vendor) inspection, classification or insurance, the course will provide a wide-ranging knowledge of technical issues related to the in-service inspection of aging assets in process plants, terminals, refineries, power stations and so on.

Plant inspection is an interesting job that provides you with the chance to work on international projects and command a competitive and attractive salary. Plant inspectors carry out unsupervised inspection tasks in the field, supervise supporting personnel such as NDE contactors and write inspection reports.

Highly sought-after for both onshore and offshore operations, the work of a plant inspector includes:

  • Executing on-site inspection work in accordance with a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE)
  • Assessing equipment deterioration for comparison against given acceptance criteria
  • Supervising contractors (e.g. NDE, blasting/painting, weld inspection)
  • Evaluating examination results and comparing against given acceptance criteria
  • Preparing inspection reports including basic code calculations (Corrosion rate, remaining life, MAWP and maximum fill height)
  • Executing material verification programmes
